This year has been the year of sweet groom reactions for me and Caitlin and Adam’s Mavris Event Center wedding was no exception to this. Of course, I loveloveLOVE shooting at Mavris, and if you’re a regular reader of my blog then you already know this, but this Mavris wedding was a bit different than the others you have seen. Caitlin and Adam had a vision of an outdoor garden ceremony at sunset, but mother nature had other plans for them. With chilly temperatures, whipping wind and rain, their ceremony was moved indoor and Mavirs (yay Ana!) handled everything like a boss.
There’s just something about the third floor space at Mavris that makes everything feel so romantic for a ceremony. I think it’s the lighting, and I’m all about dramatic and moody lighting, so give it to me in a ceremony and I’m like a kid in a candy shop bopping around scooping up every angle I can. Caitlin and Adam opted to keep their first look for their ceremony and being front and center with Adam as Caitlin turned down the aisle with her dad made it all worth it. His eyes welled up as he watched her approaching and it wouldn’t have mattered if they were in a garden or an alleyway, all he could see was her.
My favorite part of this wedding day, though, were the quick words that Caitlin said as we were trying to come up with a backup plan for portraits. See, we originally planned to zip outside for quick wedding party and couple portraits, and finish up with some family formals. We had a small window of time and were keeping our fingers crossed for lighting. But with the storms that moved in, there was no sunset, much less any natural lighting, by the time their ceremony was over. As we tried to sneak in a few portraits under the overpass out front, the winds picked up again and the wedding party had to run back inside as the rain started up again. It was quite the whirlwind, but spirits were high and the excitement of the day couldn’t put a damper on things. As Caitlin and Adam and I quickly put together a backup plan, I threw out a bunch of options for getting everything in and Caitlin told me she just wanted everything to be authentic. That was all I needed to hear. We finished up portraits with Mavris’ awesome indoor lighting (three cheers for venues who have lighting in place that you can use the heck out of) and as the world outside faded from dark to darker, the nighttime city skyline glowed through the windows.
Congratulations, Caitlin and Adam, and thank you for having me along to capture it all! Best wishes to you both!
