Every once in a while I end up with a gallery of images that is so large, I surprise even myself, and this is one of those moments. I remember bring surprised when I had to switch cards near the end of their session, as this is something that almost never happens during a portrait session. When your family of four includes kiddos who are as active and expressive as these two, though, you just can’t leave anything out! I believe that photography is all about capturing the present moment we are living in, with the people we love and who they are at this point in their lives. Kids change so quickly as they age – not just physically, but in character, too, and to be able to look back on who they were at this time is such a privilege. There’s no way I’m leaving anything out!
Plus, with the kids being a bit older than most of my family sessions, we were able to sneak in some quality parent-shot time, which was a must-have as these two recently celebrated their anniversary!
We also ended this session in a way I never have before, but that I will absolutely be taking to future family sessions with me. During some one-on-one shots with Mom and Dad near the end of our session, I asked each parent to share with each child their favorite thing(s) about them. It turned into a super sweet moment in which they were all-ears. In this ever-so-busy world and life, we often don’t have time to slow down and savor these moments and this gave this family the perfect chance share their appreciation for one another.
