It was their last full night in town before relocating to Nashville and we had planned for months for this Indianapolis canal walk family session. It seemed like the perfect setting to say farewell to Indy after calling it home for 2 years. We had plans for them to bring their bikes down and everything… but life had other plans for us. The first thing that threw us for a loop was the weather. The forecast had been calling for storms for a week straight, but every day the sun would shine and not a drop of rain was seen. Until our session day.
Lauren and I went through every backup plan possible in the days leading up to our session, yet everyday the weather cleared and we just kept crossing our fingers that the same thing would happen for us. With school letting out and them wrapping up work, there wasn’t room to push our session up, and Malachi was leaving the next morning to head to spend time with family in Baltimore for the summer. We were stuck with Wednesday – rain or shine.
And of course it rained. Hard. It stormed for hours leading up to our scheduled start time. I just kept staring out the window and hoping for a break. I started watching the radar and now as I’m typing this, I wish I had a screenshot of the crazy weather patterns that were over the city that afternoon. It was a giant swirling mass that looked like a hurricane. In any other situation, I would have suggested we find an alternative, but there looked to be a small window in the weather over downtown Indy and we jumped at it. We all raced downtown and wouldn’t you know, we fit in their entire session and didn’t even have run for cover.
We didn’t get to include their bikes in the session because Malachi’s bike broke just a few days prior, but the playful nature of these three together easily made up for it all. Best of luck to these three on their next journey and in their new home. Thanks for jumping in and braving the weather (and the wind!) with me!
My middle school math teacher told me you can pick your friends, and you can pick your nose, but you can’t pick your friend’s nose. I think he was wrong.
