It’s hard to believe that the engagement session for this elopement was already a couple of months ago. Dominique and Scott planned a short engagement for their 100 Acres Art and Nature Park elopement and despite the short span of time between the two events, we had a 50 degree temperature difference from one to the next. Not kidding, no exaggeration… FIFTY degrees. Holy moly.
For those who may be wondering, Newfields has discontinued allowing elopements to happen on the grounds and in the gardens, but will still allow ceremonies to take place at the Virginia B. Fairbanks Art and Nature Park. So on this incredibly warm morning (which is a serious understatement), Dominique and Scott and I started the day at Newfields for their first look and some portraits, then swung down to 100 Acres to meet their guests for their ceremony, and then back up to Newfields to finish out their family formals and portraits. We started our day at 9am and it was 90 degrees before we wrapped up at noon. Yet Scott managed to look cool as a cucumber through the whole thing and never complained once and Domonique’s makeup held up like a champ. In looking back at these photos, you never would’ve known just how hot it was. That’s the beauty of it all, but let me tell you… we were PUDDLES.
Scott picked up their flowers from Rubia Flower Market up in Lafayette early in the morning and made the drive down to Newfields to meet me while Domonique got ready for the day at a nearby location. Their first look was tear-filled, but my favorite part of the day was the ceremony. I love that elopements enable me to move around and capture all the expressions throughout the ceremony and to see each of Scott and Dominique’s eyes as they exchanged vows had a lump in my own throat. The ceremony was short and simple and so, so sweet as she put on her mother’s ring with tears in her eyes. And I got to be there to document it all! Congratulations, Dominique and Scott!
